TIME for Kids

Dear Teachers,

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

In addition to my role at TIME for Kids, I'm a parent to two girls, 9 and 12. Each year around this time, our family listens to the "I Have a Dream" speech. We also decorate paper bag luminaries, place LED candles inside of them, and light up our windows. Our whole town takes part in this tradition, and I find it so beautiful and meaningful each year.

What inspires your students? What moves them to activism? We want to hear about it. Check out the activity below to get the conversation going. Then, submit your students' responses by email to tfkeditors@time.com for a chance to be featured in TFK.

For context about MLK, check out our explainer of his legacy. Then read this week's cover story, which is about young people who've been inspired to give back to others. The source of that inspiration might surprise you. (Hint: It's a boy band.)

Best,
